Read Across America Highlights

Westview celebrated Read Across America, and the students had a blast!!!  Guest Readers entertained various classes and enjoyed the enjoyed the snacks.  Each day of the week had a theme in which the students dressed accordingly. 

PTA Craft Night

Westview's PTA sponsored a craft night activity on January 22nd in which fathers, grandfathers, and mentors worked with their children to make model airplanes.  The boys thoroughly enjoyed the project.  

Magnolia The Cow

Magnolia the cow visited the students here at WES on January 7, 2013.  A cow comes around to various schools every 2 to 3 years.  The students learned about how a cow digests hay in order to produce milk.  Students also learned that black cows produce white milk, not chocolate.

Mission Continues

 

On December 8th, WES teamed up with Mission Continues and the 2-11 Infantry/Charlie Company, 3rd Platoon of Ft Benning to build an outdoor classroom/weather station.  Antony Billingsley (Twin) assisted with equipment from the district (Thanks to Mr. Blevins) and PTA members grilled hot dogs for all the soldiers and volunteers.  This was indeed a team effort.  Westview received a grant from Lowes for the materials.  The soldiers did everything from assembling the benches and sanding the benches, pouring concrete, spray-painting playground equipment, replenishing sand for playground area, and picking up trash.  A special thanks to Alana Evans, a volunteer parent, who planned the event via Mission Continues. 

Heart of the Community Nominees

Each year the Phenix City School District hosts an awards ceremony honoring top achieving employees and volunteers in the community who give of their time and skills to help our schools.  Each school nominates a person for the various categories.  Our candidates for this year are listed above.
