Retention Letters

Students who will be retained for the 2012-2013 school year were given letters in addition to letters mailed home.  Concerned parents of such students are urged to meet with the principal before the last day of school.

Report Cards

The 4th nine weeks Report Cards will be distributed on the last day of school, May 24th.  Students who owe the school money (unpaid lunch account balances, lost books, etc.) will not receive their report cards.  Parents, please pay these fees before the end of this week.

School Calendar Changes

The Alabama Legislature recently passed a new law requiring all school systems to start school no earlier than August 20th and end no later than May 24th.  As a result, the Phenix City School System calendar was updated.  Every student will be coming home with the updated district calendar as well as the last school newsletter for the year.  Important dates that you need to be aware of right now are:

1.  Summer Registration (July 30-31)
2.  First Day of School (August 20)

2012 Top Accelerated Reader Students

This year we will reward the top AR students with Nitendo game systems.  Thanks to Continental Carbon who purchased all of the prizes this year as well as last year (Last year we awarded top AR students with bikes).  The recognition will take place during the 4th Nine Weeks Honors Assembly on May 23rd.  K-2 program will start at 8:50am, and the 3-5 program will start at 9:30am.

Retention Letters

It is now that time of year to consider retention for particular students who have consistently performed below grade level academically for the year.  The Problem Solving Team will meet this week to review data on many students of whom we are concerned.  Retention letters for some of these students will be sent home soon.  Parents of such students will be asked to meet with the principal and child's teacher.

Teacher Appreciation Week

May 7th-11th is designated as the week to give thanks for our teachers.  Teachers across the country deserve the recognition for their sacrificial service in the education of our youth.  Parents are more than welcome to honor the teachers in any way they choose this week.  Just remember, teaching is the one profession that makes all other professions possible!

PTA Raffle

Notices were sent home last week about the deadline (May 8th) for all money and unused tickets to be returned for the raffling of a TV, Digital Camera, and MP3 Player.  We will raffle these items on Thursday, May 10th.  Of course, you do not have to be present to win.  All proceeds are earmarked for PE equipment.  Thanks to everyone who sold or bought tickets.

Talent Show Cancelled

We were intending to have a talent show in the month of May, but I decided to cancel it.  There is too much happening administratively in May.  After such a successful Field Day program, I decided to end on that note.  I apologize for any inconveniences or disappointments this decision may have caused.

Field Day Winners

These are the winners of the 50 yd dash and 100 yd dash for each grade level.  They all received medals of honor.

Field Day Highlights

The students and parents enjoyed themselves at the Field Day festivities.  We ended the day with a miniature wet fest.  The students were squirted with the sprinklers at Garrett Stadium.
